As a school leader I believe it is extremely important to re-commit and stay current or even push existing trends. It is also in the best interest of the school to include all stakeholders voices within the re-commitment or trend setting process. This process will allow for a greater sense of ownership and belonging, and promote a more cohesive environment and a united front. This will allow all staff members to keep investing in themselves, the relationships around them and their community.
Reflecting on my professional experience it is obvious that I am surrounded by leaders who embody these habits. This is evident through a staff retreat each August, where all staff members are given the opportunity to analyze and discuss data from the previous years. Through this analysis a new goal can be discussed, identified and the implementation process can begin. This process is continued throughout the year through professional developments, and extended opportunities for staff to continue their education.
The one commitment I would like to make to begin “sharpening the saw”, is to print and visually display my habits on my desk at work and at home. I am a visual person and sometimes a keyword can be a trigger for me to better understand how to identify and handle a situation. I enjoy working and developing these habits, I would like to be more cognitively aware of the actual habits.
