This goes along with what Dr. Pumpian said in his presentation: See, Do, Get. SEE = Maintain a focus on what is important , DO = plan according to priorities, and GET results. I say this because it is easy to focus on the end goal. For me the end goal is to help guide young people to join and contribute to the great community of life around them, and to have the resources and strategies to make the best decisions possible.
This year in my current placement I have started two small projects that align with helping students to become apart of a community and accessing resources available. First, for my 20% project I embraced a smart-pen for one of my student note takers. This allows all students access to in class materials. Also, when I model accessing the notes I open a students own sphere of influence and utilize 3 person teaching. This allows students to use resources and continue to build the community around them, now if only they would embrace being proactive and access the notes on an independent level.
The second project I have taken on for the year is developing and maintaining a small mountain bike club. By viewing the end goal I was much more easily to create small steps to allow the club to be successful. The first step was deciding is this a race "team" or a learning and community building club. Based on the experience level of the students it seemed most appropriate to create an educational club, using technology as a resource (Google+, Blog, and applications). By developing a skeleton curriculum for the mountain bike club I was able to see smaller steps needed to meet my goal. While I do not follow this curriculum directly I do reference the material so that I can ensure that specific criteria is being met.
I am excited to pass on this habit and feel it could be useful in developing a piece of writing.
I feel like I am ending this a bit abruptly but I am tired so that's all I have.....
